How it works
A day with SAGE.
Follow one class's science paper from the morning it is set up to the morning after it is marked. No new exam format, no new hardware, and a teacher signs off on every result.
-
Once, at the start
01 Set up the school
A branch admin uploads class lists straight from the school's own spreadsheet and adds teachers. Each teacher sees only the classes and subjects they teach.
-
Morning
02 Create the assessment
Give it a title, class, subject and date. Then upload the question paper and the marking scheme, as PDFs or photos taken on a phone.
-
A few minutes later
03 Check the marking guide
SAGE reads both documents in a minute or two and lays out every question: its parts, any OR choices, the marks, the figures and the criteria from your scheme. Where the scheme leaves a part uncovered, SAGE drafts criteria and labels them as suggestions. Edit anything, then confirm.
-
After the exam
04 Scan the booklets
Teachers photograph each booklet with a phone, one page at a time, then review the pages and submit. Schools that already scan can upload one PDF per student instead.
-
Midday
05 Click Evaluate
Every submitted sheet is marked against the confirmed guide in the background. Sheets added later can be evaluated with another click.
-
Afternoon
06 Review the marks
Open any student to see the answer sheet beside the marks, the evidence for each criterion and the feedback. Answers SAGE couldn't decide need a teacher's call before the result can be finalised, and a name that doesn't match the student is flagged.
-
End of the day
07 Finalise and share
Finalise the results that are ready, download each student's PDF report and export the marks as a spreadsheet. If something needs correcting later, reopen it with a reason. The earlier version stays in the history.
-
Next morning
08 Teach
The class view shows which questions the class found hardest. That's where the lesson starts.
What you need
Three things your school already has.
-
1
A phone
Any recent Android phone with Chrome, or an iPhone with Safari. Nothing to install.
-
2
Your papers
The question paper and marking scheme you already write, as PDFs or photos.
-
3
Your class lists
The spreadsheet your school already keeps. SAGE reads it as it is.
Does SAGE replace the teacher's judgement?
No. Every mark is a draft until a teacher finalises the result. Teachers can change any mark, and answers SAGE is unsure about are left for them to decide.
How accurate is the marking?
SAGE checks each answer against your marking scheme, criterion by criterion, and quotes the student's own words for every mark so you can follow its reasoning. Accuracy depends on how clear the scan is and how specific the scheme is. That is why a teacher reviews every result, and why we suggest looking closely at SAGE's marks on your first few papers.
What happens with messy handwriting?
If part of an answer can't be read with confidence, SAGE marks what it can and leaves the rest empty for a teacher, with a note saying which page to check. It never guesses at a word to give or take away marks.
Which classes and boards does SAGE support?
SAGE is designed for classes 6 to 12 and follows CBSE marking conventions, such as how internal choice questions are handled. If your school follows another board, talk to us.
Do we need scanners or any new hardware?
No. The scanner runs in a phone's web browser. If your school already scans answer sheets, you can upload one PDF per student instead.
Can we always see the original answer sheets?
Yes. Every page is kept exactly as it was photographed, next to the cleaned-up copy, and each mark shows which pages it came from.
What do students and parents receive?
A PDF report for each student with their marks, feedback on each question, what went well, what to work on, and one concrete next step. Teachers also get a class view and a spreadsheet export.
Less paperwork. Deeper understanding. Better learning.
